Perfecting Facilitation for ATD

Dr. Don Ford

What an honor to receive the postcard shown above from my oldest client – the Association for Talent Development (ATD).  For my last two corporate deliveries, I received perfect 5.0 scores for facilitation from all participants, a total of 28 learning professionals whose standards for training are understandably high.  I have been teaching for over 40 years and have always enjoyed success.  It’s great to know that others are noticing.

One of the programs I facilitate is among ATD’s most popular – Instructional Design (formerly Designing Learning). Developed for participants new to instructional design or for those who want to gain a comprehensive skill set, this is the complete workshop for designing outcome-based training.  In three days, participants learn to assess the need for training, create a learning design, develop learning materials and prepare to launch new training programs. I have been teaching this program since its inception in 2004.  I would guess I have trained about 1000 instructional designers. It’s now in its fifth edition.

The other certificate program is a new one devoted to Needs Assessment.  In this two-day program, participants learn skills and strategies to identify individual and organizational performance needs before developing effective solutions.  Techniques such as job task analysis, competency analysis and performance analysis can uncover the root causes of performance problems and point to solutions that will work.

For more information on these certificate programs and the many others that ATD offers, visit td.org.

I want to especially thank the learning professionals at the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Boise, Idaho (pictured below) and the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas for their dedication to learning and warm hospitality throughout the ATD Needs Assessment and Instructional Design Certificate Programs. I’m proud to be part of a profession with outstanding people like them.
